Transforming Psychotherapy with Neuroscience & NeuroCoaching
In 2021-2022, I invited Michael to create a special course that is filled with fascinating case-histories of clients he has worked with over the years, demonstrating how effective NeuroCoaching strategies can be when working with some of the most severe cases of trauma and violence: A person who was stabbed in the stomach, a woman who was bullied and fought back, even a convicted murderer. The course also includes presentations showing how psychology became obsessed with mental illness and how to transform false beliefs into personal and financial success.
In this presentation, Michael shares what he considers to be the most important qualities to bring into the coaching and therapy arena, explaining how he integrates NeuroCoaching and network neuroscience into his work, and the importance of doing “homework.” He demonstrates his approach by presenting a recent case history of a woman who had been struggling for many years with severe alcohol addiction. presentation and Michael’s sage advice for all NeuroCoach students.
Michael Kirton is a Clinical Psychologist living in Australia, and a Certified NeuroCoach with specializations in child development, mental health issues, substance abuse, trauma, and business/executive management. He has over 40 years of clinical expertise, and is the author of 2 books.
What is this course about and who is it for?
This course marries experiential learning with evidence-based neuroscience to create new and more effective ways to practice coaching and therapy, and it also designed for people seeking to enhance their personal growth, self-knowledge, and the ability to bring “Relaxed Mindful Awareness into their work and relationships.
You’ll learn how to tap into the brain’s Salience Network in a way that allows your intuition to find better solutions to problems and to make wiser decisions more quickly. Emotional distress caused by past traumatic experiences will melt away, making is easier to connect with one’s life purpose, both individually, and within a wide range of social contexts. These skills can then be applied to any work-related situation including coaching, teaching, and psychotherapy.
How will this benefit me?
The application and practice of these brain-based and evidence-based strategies will enhance your communication and interpersonal skills, deepen self-compassion and the ability to new meta-awareness skills that balance the three key brain networks that regulate emotional and psychological health.
What will I learn?
You will learn new strategies for transforming unwanted thoughts and feelings through a process called memory reconsolidation. You’ll master unique relaxation and awareness strategies and gain a basic understanding of how Network Neuroscience changes everything we thought we knew about the brain. And you’ll participate in an illuminating exercise called the “Tree of Life” that was codeveloped by Michael Kirton and Mark Waldman.
